Fitting a Shirt

Hey Guys,

I'm here to talk to you about Course 3 Assignment 5, from ParsonsxTeenVogue Certificate in Fashion Industry Essentials course!

I found this exercise quite fun. The goal was to "step into the designers place" and size an ill-fitting shirt to a friend or family member. In this instance, I had to make the hem shorter, adjust the sleeve length by pulling the shoulder seam up, and fitting the sides and arms of the shirt. When designers create a garment and receive the "rough draft" back from the factory, they must pin the fabric where it fits best on the "fit" model, mark the pin line with tailor's chalk or a pen, and send the revised version back to the factory or sample room. A fit model is a model that is the size of a person that represents the target demographic. So, if you had a plus size line you would have a plus size fit model.

For this assignment, we only had to do the pinning. I included a timelapse video of myself doing it below as well as before and after photos of the shirt.

Enjoy!😄
